Energy News – June 2018

21st June 2018

As mentioned in last month’s briefing, the Templeborough Power Plant in Rotherham underwent its first wood firing at the beginning of May. This is an important event and forms part of a series of tests that plants, such as these, have to carry out prior to full operations. Delivery trials have also taken place and we look forward to commencing the fuel supply once the plant fires up again.

It was great to read the first edition of the Stobart Energy electronic newsletter recently. Following feedback at an Employee Forum for a way to improve communications, it’s members acted quickly and produced a very informative brief written by employees for employees. It provided a very interesting insight into the role of a VMU (Vehicle Maintenance Unit) fitter, the Quality Control Department and nominated charities and there was even a competition or two! Thank you to all the employee reps and in particular Ed Wilkinson, Laura Chadwick, Paul Russell, Adam Hayton, Helen Cummins, Karen Whitley and Wayne Davies!

The five nominated charities chosen by employees are; Alder Hey, MacMillan Cancer Support, Guide Dogs for the Blind, The Haemophilia Society and SSAFA (Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association) and ideas for fundraising initiatives are now being sought from all Energy staff. These charities are obviously close to the heart of many staff, so please lend your support when you can.

You have also been invited to take part in the “Stobart Energy Challenge”, which will be one of the first Charity events staged! As our business focuses on generating power in an environmentally friendly way, the team thought it would be a great idea to see how much power we could generate in one day using exercise bikes and rowing machines set up in various locations within the Energy offices! As well as raising funds for charity, participating staff will also get a brilliant workout – watch out for the date.
