Energy News – January 2017
29th March 2017
Firstly, some introductions… welcome to Adrian Irving who joins Stobart Biomass Transport as General Manager responsible for the management of all transport and fleet operations. Some of you may already know Adrian, as he has worked for Eddie Stobart Logistics for over 19 years as General Manager – which included sub-contracting, international transport and operations.
Also new to the Transport team is Stephen Wainwright as Widnes Operations Supervisor reporting to Paul Russell. Stephen previously worked for Kuehne & Nagel within their drinks division and has over 20 years’ experience within the transport industry. Stephen will be assisting Paul with the day to day running of the Widnes transport operation. I wish both Adrian and Stephen well in their new roles.
As Warwick has already mentioned, the first delivery of fuel from our processing site at Widnes to the new biomass plant was made just before Christmas, seen here, and deliveries are continuing during the commissioning of the plant. This is the period when the plant, equipment and processes are tested to ensure they all function properly according to the design objectives and specifications. We now have a fully experienced team of processing staff and specialised processing equipment in place, managing the reduced volume before ramp-up begins when the plant is fully operational.
There has been a change to the way the management of the Vehicle Maintenance Unit or VMU, is handled at the Widnes site.
Previously all trailer and vehicle maintenance was outsourced, but we have now brought this service in-house and it will be managed by Phil Dickinson, our new VMU Supervisor. New equipment including two fleet maintenance vehicles and a BPS brake-testing kit have been purchased, allowing us greater quality and compliance controls and reducing fleet repair costs.
Planning permission has now been submitted for new Widnes offices and we expect a response around the end of March. If permission is granted, construction will commence soon after.
