Biomass Energy for the Leisure Sector

A superbly maintained environmentally responsible holiday development located in a secluded spot overlooking Ullswater in Cumbria’s Lake District. Accommodation and facilities at the site are housed in a range of charming converted period farm buildings and highly insulated modern timber eco-cabins ideal for year round family holidays.

As the popular development expanded the decision was made to draw on the environmental and cost benefits of providing a centralised renewable heating source for all the site’s buildings.

Stobart Wood Fuel were called in during early project development to provide consultancy on the biomass fuel reception and storage facilities. An ETA biomass boiler had already been selected as the ideal heating unit for the site, providing about 90kW of hot water for heating and washing each year. Following an initial meeting, samples of a G30 virgin wood chip offering the ideal combination of calorific value and local provenance were submitted by Stobart Biomass for approval.

In consultation with their Managing Director, Stobart Wood Fuel provided an ideal specification for the wood chip reception area that made delivery and manoeuvring simple for the Company’s compact eight-wheeled tippers and aided in the design of a storage shed that was both easy to access and cost-effective to operate. Stobart Wood Fuels’ small transport units have proven invaluable in making deliveries on narrow country roads and within confined areas, such as farm yards and small industrial sites.
